On 25 May 2018, the European Union (EU) enforced the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This regulation harmonises data privacy laws throughout Europe and the regulation affects companies, both inside and outside of Europe, that process the data of EU businesses, residents or citizens (eugdpr.com).
