I knew I wanted more translation work, wanted to continue developing my skills in this area and I saw many opportunities to do this – outside of my current job. Then an opportunity presented itself to work remotely partnering with another translator working on a massive project translating financial reports. This was my real love and I completely enjoyed the experience of creating my schedule, working by myself, on my own time, in the comfort of my home or any location I chose. At that time, someone who I considered (and still consider) a mentor taught me many of the things I needed to know to get started and guided me along the way.
So, I resigned from my job and booked a two-week stay in Barbados to go on my own retreat at the Living Water Community there, to centre myself, offer it all up to the Almighty, pray for direction, and the ball started rolling. While there, I continued doing some research, exploring the freelance translation world and came to the conclusion that this was a viable career opportunity. I joined some professional translation networks and began as a freelance translator for the first few months to test the waters. I completely loved the freedom and most of all the ability to pay my bills and thrive doing what I loved. My health also improved almost immediately.
During the period while on retreat it was Lent so there were daily talks and the opportunity for others to pray with you and I entered fully into the experience. This, I believe was instrumental to laying my foundation and starting my business.
